Select IMAP if saving space on your desktop is important to you, or if you’re concerned about email backups. This implies that your emails will be saved on your email provider’s server.
POP3 will retrieve and save your emails locally before deleting them from the server. This will free up space on your server, but the emails will be unavailable online if something happens to your local storage. POP3 is a suitable choice if you are only interested in having a local copy of your files.

6. How can I import my old emails?
If your old emails are still in your account, they will be imported automatically. The IMAP protocol synchronizes your emails and folders with your email server, allowing you to handle your emails from any device linked to your account.
Once you’ve added your Ptd.net account to Mailbird, you’ll be able to access your emails right away; there’s no need to do anything else.
Note that due of IMAP protocols, you won’t be able to import emails from your local server.
7. How can I manually set up Ptd.net on Mailbird?
This page will lead you through the process of creating a Mailbird email account. The manual process is described in Step 6.
